Has the British Monarchy had its day? (Discussion)

Two streams of thought wrestle with this socio-political problem; does the UK need its monarchy, and is the very notion of a royal family not an affront and anachronism in this liberal day and age?

Tayo, ever the traditionalist, sticks to the point of view that overall, the monarchy is a credit and a boon to the nation. Statistics show that monarchies are less expensive and less corrupt than presidencies, the monarchy usually having a vested interest in taking a long-term view. (After all, royal bloodlines go back centuries.) Presidents, on the other hand, are only interested in the next election, only ever a few years away, and so tend to take the short-term view.

Tony, ever the liberal, contends that the monarchy is a bane and a curse, a carbuncle on the nation's body politic. As far as Tony is concerned, there is zero reason to ever accept that someone has a "right" to rule simply by nature of the accident of birth. This thinking makes Tony a republican, and like all republicans, he wants ...

Has the British Monarchy had its day?

In this show, Tony and Tayo discuss whether the British Monarchy has had its day and it's now time for the establishment to be retired and perhaps replaced with a Presidential system?

Is the monarchy still value for money for the British taxpayer? Does it still bring wealth and stature to the United Kingdom or are those days long gone?

What are your thoughts on this subject? Do you agree or disagree?

Electric cars pollute worse than diesel? Is Europe deindustrializing? Do voters get what they deserve?

In this show, the boys discuss a number of topics...

Do electric cars actually cause more pollution than diesels?
They debate the recent claim stating that electric cars pollute more than modern diesels. What does this mean for global warming? What about the push to move everyone to electric vehicles and away from fossil fuels? Do we need to re-think this approach? It's a hidden controversy that few others talk about, yet it is essential that this time, governments get it right.

Will Europe undergo deindustrialization?
Heck, is Europe already undergoing deindustrialization? The boys engage in a bit of brouhaha with Tony–ever the optimist–mostly plumbing for status quo as facing problems but ultimately stable, while Tayo–ever the half-glass-empty of the pair–begs to differ.

Do voters always get the government they deserve?
For once, Tayo dithers, unsure whether it is fair to blame political and election outcomes on voters in such a corrupt and moribund society. Tony is confident–but ...

Dynamite Conspiracies - 7 - the deaths of Princess Diana's and Alexander Litvinenko - was British PM Harold Wilson a spy?

The boys discuss several topics in their popular Dynamite Conspiracy series in this episode.

They first discuss whether someone knocked off Princess Diana or if her death was just an accident. The lads examine the evidence to see if they can figure out any genuine nefarious reasons for anyone to bring Diana's life to such a startlingly abrupt end.

Next, they discuss who was responsible for the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, the Russian dissident (or perhaps, a Russian turncoat, depending on your point of view).

Litvinenko was a former FSB agent and vocal critic of the Russian Federation and Vladimir Putin. He left Russia and spent several years in the UK, only to be poised by an intriguingly exotic poison, thus causing an international incident. The British government pointed the finger of blame at the Russian state for the poisoning, but was it just a red herring? After all, no firm conclusion was ever made...

Also, controversially, did Jesus and Mary Magdalene marry and have children? ...

Our 100th episode! Yay! 🥂🎉

Even before we properly get started, I kick off our celebrations by revealing the answer to the age-old problem, "What is blue but smells like red paint?" I'd been fretting over this problematic question for quite some time, so when I finally figured out the answer, I could hardly wait to share it with my friend and colleague, Tony, and now, with you too, dear listener. 😉

1st discussion:
Is democracy doomed because voters are too stupid to vote intelligently?

Fittingly, Tony and I began our retrospective by looking back at our very first episode. We were both a couple of greenhorns at the time, tentatively trying our hand at this podcasting malarky as we desperately tried to find something useful to do in the middle of the world's first-ever global lockdown.

The TNT Talk Show - not in it for the money. (Anyway, what money?)

Hi, I'm Tony, and this is my friend and colleague, Tayo.

Together, we're the TNT Talk Show. We don't claim to be special (because we're not). We don't claim to be clever (because we're modest like that). What we do claim is that as we become better informed, our confusion grows.

Essentially, we're a couple of numpties trying to make sense of an increasingly complex world. We meet with or without guests weekly and debate some burning issue of the day to see if we can work out what's going on. As dinosaurs, we don't give a fig for safe spaces; since we can dish it out, we can also take it!

We hope you will enjoy our company as much as we hope we will enjoy yours.
